Hi, I’m the parent behind Parenting Academy.
I’m not a child psychologist. I’m not a pediatrician. I don’t have a degree in early childhood anything. I’m just a parent of two kids who has made an impressive number of mistakes and learned a few things along the way.
I started this blog because when my first was born, I drowned in parenting advice that all seemed to be written by people who had never been screamed at by a overtired toddler at 6am. Everything was so certain. So polished. So completely disconnected from the chaos of my actual house.
So this is the opposite of that. Everything here is stuff I actually tried, including the stuff that flopped. When I write about bedtime routines, it’s because I lived through four months of bedtime hell. When I write about picky eating, it’s because my daughter ate beige food for a year and I have the 2am anxiety spirals to prove it.
A few things I believe, so you know where I stand:
Kids are people, not projects. They don’t need to be optimized.
There’s no single right way to do this. If something here doesn’t fit your family, throw it out. Seriously.
You’re probably doing better than you think. The fact that you’re reading a parenting blog at all puts you ahead of where you think you are.
I write one or two posts a week, usually in the evenings after the kids are down. If you want to get in touch, head to the contact page. I read everything, though I can’t always reply quickly — bedtime, you know.
